Artist's Comments

6th in the series.

As you may well have guessed from the title, it's in the shape of a helix.
Mounted on board of unknown wood-type.
This piece won regionally in the ohio governor's art show this year. (it was broken on the way back, and has been reassembled to the best of my ability)

*edit: better photo*

wow. it kinda makes me cringe to see an instrument broken up like that, but it's still so cool! great idea!

well,I promise it was already broken beyond repair before I got my hands on it :-) Glad you enjoyed it. Check out the rest of the series.

From here, the board looks like oak.

You very well may be correct. As far as I'm concerned it's "wood from the pile of scraps in the closet across the hall" :) Thanks for looking/commenting

In one way I adore these, and in another they make me so sad... seeing these beautiful instruments in this way (as a violinist myself... ) but also seeing them in a different light.

I know what you mean about it being a little upsetting. I'm a violinist also, and at one point in the project I had to break the neck and scroll off of two violins (by banging the end of the fingerboard as hard as possible against the edge of a table until the glue attaching the base of the neck to the body loosened). Later that week I had a dream that the neck was getting loose and falling off my own violin. But that's part of what I'm most proud of with this project... the pieces evoke a range of emotions and reactions. :)
